STEW



appam normally requires a nice side dish.. stew is one among the best side dishes ever for appam..


Serves : 6
Preparation time : 10-15 min
Cooking time : 15-20min


You need :

Beef : 500g 
Potato : chopped 1 cup
Carrot : chopped 1 cup
Green Peas : 1 cup 
Ginger : 1 medium piece chopped
Onion : 2 large chopped
Garlic : 6 pods
Green Chillies : 6
Turmeric Powder : 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder : 1 tsp
Crushed pepper : 1 tsp
Ginger Garlic paste : 2 tsp
Coconut milk : 2 cups
Vinegar : 2 tbsp
Curry leaves 
Oil to cook, salt to taste
Water as required

Spices to grind :
Cinnamon
Cardamom 
Nutmeg
Pepper
Fennel
Cloves

Method :

Cut stew meat and wash thoroughly. Drain excess water.
Add 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp pepper powder, ground spices, ginger garlic paste and pressure cook the meat till 10 whistles or till it is done. Steam the potatoes,carrots and peas with salt. Extract coconut milk. Keep the first extract aside. Make 2 more extractions.

In a pan, heat oil, saute curry leaves, green chillies, garlic, ginger, onion. Add 1tsp coriander powder. Add the cooked veggies and fry for a minute. Add this to the meat, and add the coconut milk (2nd and third extractions), 1 cup of water and bring to a boil. Add the first extracted milk now.When the sides start boiling, add 2 tbsp vinegar. Don't let it boil. Serve hot with appam.

Discard meat from the recipe to get a veg stew.
